Mini-interview from Nitrogen Chemistry Lab. Part1

Most recently, we released the work that was mentioned in the previous post. The entire synthetic layer of tasks was performed by a graduate student of our laboratory, Yuri Alekseevich Sidunets. Yuri is an extremely versatile person, painstakingly and tirelessly moves science forward - that's why he became the hero of our mini-interview. #people of science

The young scientist shared with us about his path : How Yuri's thorny path from St. Petersburg began to the present day.  We hope you will find a format in which we will try to highlight the thoughts and opinions of young scientists from our laboratory and try to study what is ultimately the driving force of scientific progress! Yuri was born in St. Petersburg, graduated from St. Petersburg State Institute of Technology (Technical University) in 2022 with honors in the field of Chemical Technology (Organic Substances and Materials in Chemical Technology) and went to conquer Moscow in 2022, where he decided to enter graduate school at the Institute of Organic Chemistry to develop and improve his skills chemistry named after N.D. Zelinsky. Yuri joined our group in September 2023 and actively joined the work.

Who or what influenced your decision to pursue science?

My father was a scientist, so I decided to follow his example.

How can the results of your research be useful to people?
"In my opinion, the main goal of fundamental chemical science is the accumulation of new knowledge that expands the boundaries of human knowledge and contributes to the development of civilization. "

What is the main advantage and disadvantage of Russian science?
In a large number of talented personnel capable of making great discoveries. The inability to create conditions for their work.

What breakthrough discoveries in science should we expect in the next 10 years?

In the fields of artificial intelligence and atomic energy.

If there was an opportunity to ask any scientist of any era one question, who would this scientist be and what kind of question?

Sergey Pavlovich Korolev. What was his personal ambition in space exploration?

How do you feel about the fact that today at school they encourage you to engage in research activities since elementary school?

I think this is premature. In my understanding, the essence of research activity is the discovery of new knowledge based on what is already available or, in exceptional cases, something beyond current concepts. To do this, you first need to teach a person to think and form a fundamental understanding of the world around him, which requires quite a long time.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I devote my free time to physical and moral rest.
